
While the snowflakes flew outside, the pucks were flying inside at the East Alton rink as the Varsity Blue Rage faced off against Bethalto last night. Freeburg struggled early against the depth of the Bethalto bench as the Eagles scored 4 goals in the first period.
In the second period Freeburg came to life with a goal by B. Bittle at 10:21 and another by C. Flynn (assisted by A. Nickens) at 8:37. The Eagles answered with a goal that was quickly followed by another Freeburg Goal at 4:41, this time by A. Nickens (assist Hoge). Bethalto scored another goal to end the second period with a score of 6-3.The Eagles started the third period by scoring 2 more goals but the end of the third period belonged to Freeburg. A. Nickens put on quite the show when he scored at 3:11 (assist T. Rainbolt, B. Sawyer), and again at 2:40 (assist C. Flynn), and yet again at 1:43 to bring the Blue Rage within 2 for a final score of 8-6.
